We?re used to Lena Dunham putting her hilarious antics into scripts, but in her new memoir the ?Girls? creator dives into more serious content.
During her interview with Terry Gross on NPR?s ?Fresh Air,? the 28-year-old chatted about a section in her book ?Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She?s Learned? that is hard to miss.
?There were a few things in this book that I was terrified to put into the world,” Dunham explained. “The chapter about date rape in the book was a really, really terrifying thing for me to put into the world.”
“It was a painful experience physically and emotionally, and one I spent a long time trying to reconcile,” Lena added. “At the time that it happened, it wasn’t something that I was able to be honest about. I was able to share pieces, but I sort of used the lens of humor, which has always been my default mode, to try to talk around it.”
Dunham explains that her life experience helped her cope with the rape and explained, “I said I spent so much time scared. I spent so much time ashamed, I don’t feel that way anymore. And it’s not because of my job, it’s not because of my boyfriend, it’s not because of feminism – though all those things helped – it’s because I told the story. And I still feel like myself and I feel less alone.”
‘I’m getting ready as we speak,’ she tells MTV News of this year’s tournament, tipping off Monday. By James Montgomery

Last year, based mainly on her attitude, the fact that she plays an AK-47 shaped guitar and the presence of photos like this, Ke$ha was given an 11 seed in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament — and promptly lost by a huge margin to U2 in the opening round.

Of course, she's spent the past 12 months fuming over that early exit, and now, she's going to get her shot at redemption. Not only is Ke$ha back in the 2012 MMM tournament — which kicks off Monday — but she's beefed up her rock credentials: working with the likes of Alice Cooper, channeling the "sexiness" of '70s rock on her new album, recording a (genuinely pretty great) cover of Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" and spending time snorting Tums with Wayne Coyne.

So, yeah, this year, she's ready to knock off the field of 63 other acts gunning for the MMM trophy — a brimming bracket that includes defending champions Green Day
, upstarts
Fun. and good pals the Black Keys, to name just a few — and reign supreme. But just in case all that rock-and-roll prep work isn't enough to put her over the top, well, Ke$ha has another secret weapon at the ready: an incredibly toned pelvic floor.

"I'm getting ready as we speak. I'm doing Kegels," she told MTV News, while throwing phantom punches at an unsuspecting cameraman. ‘Eye roll,’ Gaga tweets after music mag NME blasts her latest LP. By James Montgomery

Earlier this week, British music mag <a href="http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=1&title=the_most_pretentious

_albums_ever&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1" target="_blank">NME set out to determine the "10 Most Pretentious Albums Ever." The list includes (genuinely pretty terrible) conceptual fare like Kiss' Music From "The Elder," Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and, uh, Lady Gaga's Born This Way, which somehow bested all competitors to nab the #1 spot.

How? Well, as NME writer Priya Elan wrote, "On Born This Way, [Gaga] seemed to believe in her own hype, convinced she had a message to share. Cue an album of unwieldy 'anthems' that couldn't mask the fact that the fun had left the building." Elan singled out the thumping "Scheiße" as BTW's most pretentious moment, adding, "Did electroclash die for this?"

Snap. As you'd probably expect, those jabs had Gaga's Little Monsters on the offensive, and they launched an all-out attack on Elan in the comments section of NME's website. But Gaga herself remained above the fray — for a while, anyway.

On Thursday night, she took to her <a

href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/172828595134267392" target="_blank">Twitter account to hit back at NME, a publication that's certainly been no stranger to charges of pretentiousness over the years.

"Oh the irony of winning 'Most Pretentious Album Ever' from none other than NME. *Eye roll,*" Gaga wrote. "I might laugh forever [and] then return to narcissism."

Double snap. Having sufficiently eye-rolled her way through the situation, there's been no further comment from Gaga about the list.

NME, of course, has since turned the exchange into a separate story, one which, for whatever reason (word count?), includes recent comments Gaga made about bulimia … and spaghetti. *Eye roll.*

On the surface, Elijah Wood‘s new movie, “Open Windows,” is just a thriller with a clever framing device. Director Nacho Vigalondo set the entire film on a computer desktop with the action filmed through various webcams in different windows that pop up in front of the viewer. But there’s something very current about the madman… Read more »

‘He’s an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist,’ producer Mike Posner tells MTV News about Bieber’s new single. By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber dropped his bumping new single "Boyfriend" on Monday (March 26), teasing his next album, Believe. It's a grinding, midtempo song that hears Bieber proclaiming all the ways he can make a girl happy (swag and fondue included!).

Co-produced and co-written by "Cooler Than Me" singer Mike Posner, the song shows growth from Bieber's "Baby" days. When MTV News caught up with Posner last week, he told us what it was like to hit the studio with Bieber (and co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy) for the track.

"I've known [Bieber's manager] Scooter [Braun] for a few years, so I actually ran into Scooter at a Clippers game and told him I would love to work with Justin," Posner said. "I got the opportunity to write with Justin. I didn't really know what to expect at first, but he's an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist.

"Because I'm an artist myself, I can be pretty selective on who I produce for and who I make beats for … and really what I'm looking for is an amazing vocalist, somebody that can sing better than I can," he continued. "And the other thing is somebody that's willing to not try to make something that succeeds within the matrix of what pop music is now, but makes something that moves that matrix to where it is, and Justin was willing to take that leap with me."

Bieber spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show hours after the song's world premiere Monday, explaining why this was the perfect track to kick off the Believe era.

"It was a really hard choice. I mean, we had so many songs, so many uptempos we could release, [that] I thought, 'Let's slow it down,' " he said, adding that there are already plenty of fast songs all over the radio. "It's just something a little bit more mature, but it's also something I think I'm ready for."

While fans and industry insiders had been wondering what a more grown-up Bieber would sound like, he said he tried to block out all the noise when making the track. "There's so many people that are going to give me opinions, but I'm the only one who can ultimately make those decisions, because I'm going to have to live with my career for the rest of my life. So I thought this was the perfect single," he said, adding that this song "was me all the way; it is a representation of me."

And Bieber said "Boyfriend" perfectly sets up what's coming next. "It's kind of classic," he said of the album. "The songs, I feel, won't get old. The music is very fresh, but it's also — I'm taking a lot from old-school music, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of old R&B, a lot of old pop. It's pretty special."

What do you think of "Boyfriend"? Share your reviews in the comments below!

Oh, the ‘90s. It was a time when all the hardest-rocking ladies in music were totally angst ridden — and fierce about it. (And we’d like to categorize our adolescent selves during that period the same way, if we may.)
It feels good to be back in the arms of Shonda Rhimes, am I right? Last night Shondaland Thursdays kicked off, and I had a blast. I hadn’t thought much about how this Season Four premiere for Scandal would go, but I was pleasantly surprised by some things… aaand disappointed by others. I’ve always loved [...]

Meanwhile, Paula Abdul has been absent from the set since her final group was eliminated last week. By Jim Cantiello

MTV News' own Jim Cantiello is exclusively covering "The X Factor" rehearsals. Read on for his fly-on-the-wall backstage report!

LOS ANGELES — "The X Factor" top seven are back on the lot after their first (and only) mini-vacation of the season. And as the Thanksgiving tryptophan wears off, the anxiety of another double elimination is setting in.

Adding to the stress? "The X Factor" is tackling the songs of Michael Jackson on Wednesday night (November 30), on the 29th anniversary of Thriller's release, no less.

One of the contestants is so stressed over the theme he's emerged as a total perfectionist. During Monday's rehearsals, he had already nixed multiple arrangements the show had provided him. "This is the most unprepared I've felt on a Monday," he said to his mentor as they rushed out of Stage 36. There was a camera crew chasing them to capture the drama — as well as the ensuing late-night emergency meeting with the vocal coaches — so don't be surprised if some of this intense footage ends up in your living room. (This afternoon's dress rehearsal went swimmingly, for the record.)

Meanwhile, one contestant had a full-on battle with his/her mentor over a chair. The mentor said, "Sit and sing." The contestant said, "Again?! How about I do something on my feet for Michael Jackson week?" Another mentor came to the defense of the contestant. In the end, the contestant is sitting after all. Don't worry, contestant. The eerie arrangement of an MJ classic is what folks are going to be buzzing about. No one will care if you sit or stand. In the control room, I spied one of the bigwigs utter the word "brilliant!" after the contestant's dress rehearsal.

Another hot topic: wardrobe! When paying homage to one of the biggest music icons ever, it's tempting for the stylists to include clothing nods to Michael's various looks. But several singers are worried they'll look too much like Jackson impersonators, which has caused many a headache in the wardrobe trailer. But stylist June Ambrose is still able to keep things light in the midst of the drama. While waiting around for a contestant's last-minute fitting, she started an impromptu MJ dance party on the lot. Crotch grabs and "woo" included!

Lastly, Paula Abdul's sunny energy has been noticeably absent on the CBS lot now that all her groups have been eliminated. She went from being the most hands-on mentor to an on-set ghost. "The X Factor" family can't wait to welcome her back for her first live show as strictly a judge. What do you think she's been doing with her newfound free time?

You can catch Jim on the "X Factor Pepsi Pre-Show," streaming at 7 p.m. ET tonight on TheXFactorUSA.com!
